Almost like a normal weekend

We had a quiet day today, that almost resembled a "normal" weekend day. Riley actually permitted us to put him in the bouncer seat for over an hour this afternoon- which allowed me to make cookies! Rew played his PS3 (SW Force Unleashed, for those who care), and we even got a little cleaning done. This included the little man, who had another sponge bath. Even the kitty seemed to have a good day, with an excellent set of the rips this morning.

The weather's bizarre today. One minute beautiful and sunny, the next dark and foreboding. We even thought we saw some snow falling, although it was warm enough this morning that Rew didn't need a jacket when he went outside to see if anything had been blown around by the 40mph winds. Hope you all had a great weekend as well!

Are you doing this right?

This photo's actually from Weds. I like it because of the quizzical little look on his face, as if he's questioning our credentials. Speaking of, any advice on stuff I shouldn't be eating would be appreciated. Riley seems to have some issues with gas and I have a feeling it has to do with stuff I'm eating, but we're not sure what's causing it.

A Pleasant Stroll

So, working on the "one thing gets done each day" plan, today we went for a walk in the Arboretum to stretch Mom's legs out a bit (yesterday's goal, which I'm proud to say I accomplished, was watering the plants). We got to try out our stroller for the first time- worked like a charm. The trees are super nice right now, and it was nice to get out of the house for a while.

And this is how our trip ended. Luckily he waited until we were actually almost back to the car to melt down, but then proceeded to scream half the way home. Turns out Andrew has banshee blood somewhere in his family line (he sure didn't get this from me!).

Piggy Baby!

We had our 1 week weigh in today- Riley has already regained AND surpassed his birth weight. Yowza! He's now 7lbs 8.5oz. I guess the feeding routine is going well. Also, yesterday was our 7th anniversary. Rew picked up food from a nice French restaurant near here. We ate it on the couch and watched a movie. Riley cooperated by sleeping during dinner.

One week

Here are the bath pix from yesterday. As you can see, Riley had a good time. The last pic is actually from this morning. He just looked so sweet sleeping there. He's a whole week old today!

Surrogate Bassinets

So our silly little son sleeps a lot. Unless you put him down. Then he gets cranky. This, needless to say, makes it hard to get anything done around here. We take turns serving as surrogate bassinets to the little dude. It's Rew's turn right now.
On another note, we had our first sponge bath today. I'll post those pix tomorrow (maybe). Pretty hilarious how upset he gets when he's stripped naked-he must get cold. I guess I would be- the low here tonight is 37!



Here he is napping on Mom. He's taken to folding his hands like this and sleeping on them. Too cute.

Here he is getting some good eye contact with Dad this morning. I think the little frown has to do with Rew's stylish hairdo.

In some countries, we could get arrested for pestering a sleeping baby...

Day 4 of life is good

Hi everyone. I have a few minutes to update (although it's slow going, typing with one hand). Riley was able to come home yesterday evening, and is getting used to the creaky floors in his new house. Gramma and Granpa Meyer came to help out and have just left. Riley has had a busy day today- with his first well-baby exam this afternoon. Turns out they mis-measured his length in the delivery room. He's actually 19.5 inches! He's only lost 3% of his birth weight, so it looks like all is well in Riley world. He has a touch of jaundice, but below the level where they would be concerned.
We're basically just working out the kinks with feeding, and Andrew is trying to learn how to function with poor sleep (I've been training for 8 months!). Here are a couple of pictures, in no particular order...more later!

Here's Riley!

Riley Dombard joined our family on 10 October 2008. Baby is fine, Mom is fne but sore, and Dad is giddy.

For those keeping score at home, here are the full spces: Riley Francis Meyer Dombard, born at 9:02 pm CDT via c-section. He was 7 lbs 6 ozs and 17 3/4 inches long. He has all the appendages and accessories you would expect from a little boy. He spent some time in the NICU the first day because of a false-positive high bilirubin count in his cord blood. Don't worry, he's all good. Currently, we are working through the kinks of breastfeeding (right now he sucks at sucking, but he can scream like an old pro).

No baby yet...

Hi all. Andrew here. D'Arcy and I are still sitting in her labor and delivery room 44 hours after coming to the hospital. The kid is being stubborn, but both he and Mom are fine. Things are just going slowly. The good news is D'Arcy seems to be fairly immune to contraction pains, describing them as cramp-like. So at least it hasn't been 2 days of seething agony! In fact, she is currently enjoying her lime sherbet.

We are nearing the end of the induction phase of the program. If this doesn't bear fruit (and by fruit, I mean baby), we will consider other options. It looks like 10/10/08 is a good bet for his birthday!

OMG

Hmmm. Having baby today, or tomorrow. Turns out my water broke this morning...
We'll keep you posted!

Meyer Babyshower

We drove down to St. Louis this past weekend for the baby shower that my Grandma and parents organized for us on the 5th. Mind you, Grandma had minor surgery on the 1st (she's a go-getter). Lots of fun with the Meyer clan- which can be a bit hectic at times given the shear numbers of people that typically attend such events. We have a lot of really nice stuff! I think the baby will be well-clothed and warm, if nothing else! Now we're just taking stock of what's left to do and waiting...
Also bought a car seat this weekend. Things are getting official.

Just a quick sample of the "flavor" of the shower. Here's a crowd of Meyer-associated women taking pictures of me with the cake. Grandpa, my Dad, and Rew are around too, but somewhat outnumbered. Age range of crowd= 1yr to 80+yrs.


Check out this beautiful blanket that my Grandma cross-stitched for il bambino. I'm afraid to use it- I would feel horrible if some misc baby...substance...got on it. I guess that goes with the territory.
